STALLION SERVICE AUCTION/FUTURITY RULES, REGULATIONS AND INFORMATION

NEW THIS YEAR!

The WQHA will be adding a new set of OPEN futurity classes to be run in conjunction with the Breeders Futurity. The classes offered will be weanlings (broken down into fillies & colts) and run in conjunction with the breeder’s class. The performance classes offered will be yearling longe line; 2-4 yr old hunt seat and 2-4 yr old western pleasure. To be eligible for these classes a stallion must be made eligible by a fee of ½ the advertised stud fee or $300.00 which ever is greater and the $100.00 entry fee. More than one owner can go together to pay the stud fee to make the colts eligible but each entry will pay a $100.00 entry fee. This can all be done the day of the show. However, as studs become eligible they will be posted on the WQHA web site so additional horses can be entered enlarging the futurity. A horse that is entered in the breeder’s part of the futurity would have to enter in the open futurity to be eligible for that pot of money. There will be no breedings associated with these entries. Of the total purse 20% will go into the breeders part of the futurity and the remainder of the funds will purchase the awards and be paid to the entries. 1-10 entries pays 3 places – 50%-30%-20%. 11-15 entries pays 5 places-38%-28%-19%-10%-5%.

BREEDERS FUTURITY The Breeders Futurity monies from the auction will stay in the breeder’s futurity along with the 20% from the open part of the futurity.

All horses must pay an entry fee into the breeder’s futurity with the exception of the weanlings that resulted from the purchase of a breeding in the auction, or the stud owners free entry from the horses sold in the auction.

STALLION OWNER FUTURITY – The mare owner’s weanling and the stallion owner’s choice of weanling participate in the futurity. All stallion owner monies go to the stallion owner in the weanling class if they both should place. Stud owners receive one free entry of their choice providing there stallion sold in the auction. This free entry can be in any of the breeder’s futurity classes. MARE OWNER FUTURITY – The mare owner’s nominated mare is eligible for the mare owner’s monies as the weanling is placed. Mare owners must show in the stallion owner’s futurity in order to show in the mare owner’s futurity. It is the mare owner’s responsibility to check with the stallion owner for fees they may incur before purchasing a breeding. This includes checking for any extra fees that may be associated with purchasing breedings to an APHA or Appaloosa stallion.

The SSA will be accepting stallions up to June 1st that already are sold to a mare owner for ½ the advertised stud fee or $300.00 whichever is greater.

WEANLING FUTURITY The money will be divided in 3 pots. 1-Mare owners that bought the breeding and 20% of the entry fees from the open weanling division plus the auction money. The mare owner may enter the open futurity class for the regular entry fee. 2 –The stud owner money will consist of the auction purse and 20% of the entry fees from the open futurity. All weanlings are considered of equal worth and the auction money will be divided accordingly in the fillies and the colts. 3- the 3rd pot of money, for the open weanling futurity will consist of all entry fees less the 20% described above.

TWO-FOUR YEAR OLD WESTERN AND HUNT SEAT FUTURITY- any two-four year-old horse is eligible in the current SSA two-four year Old Futurity that is sired by stallions whose services sold through the current Stallion Service Auction or a stallion sold in the corresponding year of the appropriate age group. Owner and exhibitor must be a current WQHA member. The Futurity inspectors will have final approval of all questionable bits and bosals. Riders may be asked to drop bridles and/or back at the option of the judge. No martigales or ti-downs. No bosals or cavessons will be permitted under snaffles or bosals. If circumstances arise that are not covered by WQHA-SSA Futurity rules, AQHA rules will apply.

LONGE LINE FUTURITY – All yearlings sired by eligible SSA Stallions are eligible for the SSA Yearling Long Line Futurity or sired by a stallion sold in the corresponding year of the appropriate age. (English and Western) An exhibitor can only show 1 horse in the Longe Line Class. NSBA Rules will govern the Yearling Longe Line Futurity for procedure and equipment.

AUCTION MONIES/PURSE – Of the monies collected directly from the Stallion Service Auction sale, the auction expenses are met first. Twenty-percent (20%) of the remainder goes to the WQHA. Of the remaining monies, the designated halter stallion’s purse will stay in the weanling halter division and the designated performance stallion’s purse will stay in the performance. REGARDLES OF THE DESIGNATION OF MONIES (Halter – Performance) BY THE STALLION OWNER-IF A STALLIONS BREEDING SELLS IN THE CURRENT YEARS AUCTION HIS GET ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE HALTER AND PERFORMANCE CLASSES. THE WEANLING CLASS HOWEVER WILL CONSIST OF A STALLION OWNER AND MARE OWNER DIVISION ALONG WITH AN OPEN FUTURITY. OWNER AND EXHIBITOR MUST BE A CURRENT WQHA MEMBER.

PLACINGS/PAYBACKS – In all SSA events, 3 placings are paid. In the weanling halter futurity, there are four divisions IN THE CLOSED SECTION OF THE FUTURITY, 3 placings in each. Each horse is considered of equal worth and monies are pro-rated by horse, the filly and colt money will then be split equally between the stallion owners and the mare owners. In the performance classes all horses are considered of equal worth and monies are pro-rated by horse. The purse will consist of all entry fees less 10% office charge, and the income from the performance stallion’s breedings that year less 30% paid to the top three sires of the horses placing in each class. The sire money is also pro-rated by the number in each class, each horse being of equal value in the whole performance division.

DEADLINES – Once a horse has been nominated, there is to be no substitution. Registration certificates must be shown prior to issuance of a show number. PAYMENT OF BREEDING PURCHASED THROUGH AUCTION – Mail bids must be paid in full at time bid was submitted. MC/Visa will be accepted as means of payment. Payments not received within 30 days will allow the SSA Committee to return the Stallion Service to the public. JUDGING – We use a two-judge system. In the halter futurity, both judges will be in the ring at the same time to watch the horses enter and trot and to inspect the horses. The two judge’s scores are combined for total to arrive at final placings. In the two/four year-old classes, there will be one go round with both judges in the ring at the same time. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – Stallion Owners: If you own an AQHA, APHA or Appaloosa registered stallion (or Thoroughbred whose foals are eligible for AQHA registry) and donate at least one breeding to our Auction and that service is SOLD through our Auction, you are given one free entry in our futurity. (If you donate 2 breedings and they both sell, you have 2 free entries). Mare Owner: Open to all registered Quarter Horse Mares, Paint Mares and Appaloosa Mares. SIRE or DAM must be a registered quarter horse. ALL WEANLINGS MUST HAVE REGISTRATION PAPERS OR BREEDERS CERTIFICATES BY SHOW DATE! All participants must comply with the rules and regulations of the SSA as well as the terms and conditions of the SSA contract and auction itself. The owner and the exhibitor must be WQHA members by show date to be eligible to show, unless the mare owner is representing a stallion owner in the closed section of the breeders futurity. If this occurs the stallion owner would not have to be a member to be eligible for the futurity premium in the weanling breeders futurity section only. IF YOUR MARE DIES OR LOSES THE FOAL – Let the SSA Secretary know right away. You can opt to wait for the following year to breed that mare or another mare. The year you purchase the breeding is considered year one. The SSA will only allow a 2-year time span on breedings purchased through the SSA Auction. This protection is good for the year following the breeding purchase only. If the foal dies after birth, but within the live foal guarantee period, you may breed your mare for the following year only. We cannot do anything if the foal dies past that time. IF THE STALLION DIES OR RELOCATES – If the stallion dies before your mare was bred the year you purchased the breeding, the money you paid for the breeding will be refunded (or you can choose to put that money towards another stallion that is still available through the auction). This will only be offered for the current year or the following year’s auction. Since relocation of a stallion doesn’t prevent you from breeding a mare and is only an inconvenience, the SSA is not responsible for relocated stallion. Every effort is made to publish known location changes. IF YOU SELL YOUR MARE AND/OR FOAL BEFORE THE FUTURITY – Notify the SSA secretary of the new owners right away. Unless you made a stipulation in the contract of your sale agreement, the new owners will compete in the mare owner SSA weanling halter futurity. FOAL NOMINATIONS BY STALLION OWNER – The stallion owner has until the day of the class to pick his stallion’s best representative to compete for the stallion owner division of the weanling halter futurity, or his choice of yearling or two/four year old. There is no entry fee. WHEN AND WHERE IS THE FUTURITY HELD – Every Year in August-September. TO NOMIATE A STALLION TO THE WQHA STALLION SERVICE AUCTION – Simply fill out a SSA Entry Blank. A Breeding Contract will be mailed to you after the auction with the mare owner information on the contract. HOW CAN I BID –Phone Bidding is available. To bid by phone, notify the SSA Secretary with your bid and it will be posted on the internet if it is the highest bid. To bid by mail bid. You can fill out the mail bid form and send it to the SSA Secretary along with your check for the full amount of your bid. You will be notified if your bid was successful and, if not, your check will be returned to you. Bidding will start at 50% of the stallion’s stud fee. If the stud fee is less than $400.00, bidding will begin at $300.00. Private Treaty horses will start at $300.00 unless other wise stated on the entry form. STALLION SERVICES STILL AVAILABLE AFTER THE AUCTION – Any service still unsold after the deadline is available for purchase at 60% of the advertised stud fee or $300.00 whichever is greater, up until Dec. 31st. In order for a colt to be eligible to show that year in the futurity the stallion would have to be purchased before the futurity in Aug/Sept. MARE OWNERS – If you take more than one mare to the stallion you purchase at the auction, you will be able to wait until the day of the show to decide which foal will be your entry in the weanling class.

ANY AND ALL DISPUTES WILL BE RESOLVED BY THE SSA COMMITTEE
