National Directors Report

W.Q.H.A. Board of Directors Meeting
May 11, 2010
Wausau, WI.

President John Schmahl called meeting to order at 7:05pm. Roll call was taken and the following people were present-John Schmahl, Kathy Schroeder, Diane Baier, Scharleen Schmahl proxy for Kathy Doyle, Beth Treptow, Adam Mueller, Zoe Miller, Brooks Brickham, Mark Zeitler, Heather Zeise, Robert Schmitz, Pat Gauthier, Keri Smith, Joe Spak, Larry Lemke, and Lance Treptow.

Secretaries Report-Motion was made by Keri to accept report as emailed/mailed. Seconded by Kathy. Motion carried

Financial Report-Total liabilities at this time are $36,075.92. No other activity at this time. Motion made by Larry to accept as handed out. Seconded by Beth. Motion carried.

State Show Report-At this time Pat and Kathy Schroeder are getting all positions filled with volunteers. If you are available to give some time to the show, please contact either of these ladies. A state show meeting will be held in June to discuss, shavings, workers, equipment, awards, etc. Joe Spak will be in charge of sponsorships again this year so if you need any forms, please contact Joe.

Show Coordination Report-At this time the only discussion was the cancellation of the Glen Valley shows. Kathy and Pat wanted to know what we should do about the insurance that was scheduled for their shows. Discussion followed and Larry made a motion to send a bill to Glen Valley for 3 days of insurance. Seconded by Beth. Motion carried. There was also discussion from Adam, about hauling in your own bedding at shows, yes or no. It was decided that it is at the discretion of the show to make their own policies.

Membership Report-625 in 2010 and 624 in 2009 at this time. 30 memberships came from the Horse Fair, and 14 were new members.

Youth Report-Sue Merkatoris reported that the fundraising would begin for the 2010 show season as soon as Memorial Day Classic. Please try to show your support for our youth whenever you can. July 2nd is the Novice Show that will again be run by the youth. This year it will be held in Elkhorn, WI. Lance Treptow will be holding a clinic on Friday AM and Stephanie Lynn will be the judge for the AQHA Novice Show that will start at 12:00pm.

Trail Ride Report-It will be held this year at Spring Green.

Regional Experience Report-They are still trying to find a venue for 2011, Des Moines may be available, but not sure. There was also some clarity for the exhibitors that they MUST be a member of the affiliate in that region to participate.
Newsletter Report-Cost was $7380 with a net of $2430. Good job Kathy.

Horse Fair Report-There was on average 56,000 people who attended this year. There was discussion on the WQHA buying plastic bags to give out at the Horse Fair and for other occasions. They would be plastic t-shirt bags in red with white print. The WQHA logo would be on the bag on 1 side with our website under it. Diane reported that the cost would be $739 from U-Line out of Minnesota. Motion was made by Pat to purchase bags. Seconded by Larry. Motion approved.

Horse-A-Rama-Would like to thank all the people who also helped at the Horse-A-Rama this year in Manitowoc. Approximately 6000 people were in attendance. Lane and Beth did a trail clinic and Larry and John, and H. Anne worked the booth area.

Marketing Report-It was mentioned that the lady who does our newsletter also does websites if we are interested.

OLD BUSINESS
There was some discussion on the small fry horses that are exhibited and they must be exhibited by owners of the horse to qualify for year end awards. Just like was agreed upon in January at the meeting.

NEW BUSINESS
If you are intending to go to the Escanaba shows you will have to have a new blood test done on your horses within 30 days of the show. This tests needs to be done on horses from Wisconsin who are going into Upper Michigan. They will be testing for pyroplasmosis and there has been 3 cases in Wisconsin.

National Director Report-Quarterfest was a good time, reported by AQHA.

Motion made to adjourn at 8:35PM by Ron. Seconded by Brooks. Motion carried

Next meeting will be July 6 at Bublitz’s Restaurant on Hwy 41, south of Fond du Lac in Lomira. 7:00PM start time.
